Only 45 Years Left. Enjoy.
We all know the government is always watching, so it probably won’t surprise you that the Social Security Administration tracks you from the moment you start working until the moment you retire. According to their statistics, 95% of people who reach age 65 will fall into one of 3 categories – (1) still working, (2) living paycheck to paycheck, or (3) dead.
Let’s start with still working – currently representing 5% of the population and growing. These 5 out of 100 people have worked for 45 years of their lives, and they still aren’t done. They will likely continue to work to age 70+ in an attempt to maintain the lifestyle they’ve become accustomed to. Paycheck to Paycheck represents 62% of the population. 62 out of 100 people will have to skip the family vacation, strongly consider cheaper colleges for their kids, and constantly worry about how they would pay the bills if they lost their job. The last category – dead – is the 28% who never made it to 65. Ironically, the leading cause of death among this group is heart attacks, occurring mostly on Monday mornings. I wonder why that could be.
Money isn’t everything, but it’s right up there with breathing in terms of your survival. When you have it, that stress no longer exists for you. This is the feeling that exists among the final 5%. How did they get there you ask? 1 in 4 inherited the money, while the other 3 started a business…and not a small business…a large business – like owning multiple hotels, or a city block worth of real estate.
For those of us who don’t have hundreds of thousands to invest in something like that, there is another option. You can work at a job for 45+ years of your life, or you can work hard for a few years as an entrepreneur and change your place among the statistics. The choice is yours.
